Having qualified for the regional finals, Ratcliffe under 13 Tennis team made the long journey to Tipton on Friday along with three other regional winners. Ratcliffe were drawn against Trent in the semi-final and were soon in the lead after a Louie Fletcher masterclass. Sam Davies and George Binnie battled well to win their doubles and Joe Davies, once again, had to dig deep to beat a very good opponent 7 – 5. George wrapped up the win with a 6 – 0 in his singles, Sam also won his and Louie and Joe their doubles. So, after not dropping a set against Trent, hopes were high going into the final against Warwick, who beat Ellesmere in their semi-final.
Early indications were that this was going to be a much tougher test than Trent and so it proved at the half way stage with Ratcliffe 2-1 down. Unfortunately, despite Louie and Joe winning their doubles, Sam and George just couldn’t get into their singles and we ended up losing the match 8 – 4. Congratulations must go to the whole squad for their never say die attitude and for making it to the last eight schools in the country , finishing as runners up in the region is a fantastic achievement.
