Debating and Public Speaking

A high energy, but relaxed environment that discusses the ‘hottest’ news items of the day.  Topics have included: Does God Exist?; Should Parliamentary figures be held accountable for decisions in their personal lives?; Does power corrupt absolutely – noting Premier League Managers and their illegal activities; Always fun. Bring a friend!

Model United Nations

Ratcliffe has been attending the Bath Model United Nations Conference now for ten years.  This is a ‘club’ for those students who enjoy international politics, individual research and the opportunity to debate world issues.  As a school we have been increasing the size of our delegations and have achieved some impressive feats in terms of highly recommended delegates and delegations.  Our students are fully involved and are willing to push themselves intellectually.  We have recently started to attend the conference at Cheadle Hulme School in October to help develop our ‘delegates’ still further.

In the ‘Model United Nations Club’, we learn about the purpose of the united nations, the issues that they debate, the way they debate and the outcomes of their decisions.  We hold regular debates, learn about debating procedure and learn how to write resolutions and well as how to network.

Young Enterprise

Students in Year 12 have the opportunity to apply for a position in the Young Enterprise Company Programme.  This involves setting up their own ‘real’ company in school, with weekly Board meetings, attendance at local training events, selling opportunities at local Trade Fairs and competitions with other Young Enterprise Companies in Leicestershire and the East Midlands.  This is a great chance for students to develop their team-working, communication, leadership and organisational skills, amongst others.
