On Wednesday 9th October, the Senior School Eco Team welcomed two Co-Founders of our sports kit supplier, PlayerLayer, to talk about the company’s new ideas to make their products more environmentally friendly.
They addressed topical issues in the clothing industry such as the impact of “Fast Fashion” on the environment, as well as presenting their new range of sustainable sportswear, these included leggings made of plastic bottles and shirts made of recycled polyester. These ideas are hoping to be assimilated into Ratcliffe’s uniform in the near future.
There was also discovery of a recent sponsorship deal with Forest Green Rovers FC, recognised by the FA and UEFA as the “greenest club on earth” with PlayerLayer focusing on their kit, producing shirts from a mixture of Bamboo Charcoal, Organic Cotton and Recycled Polyester.
The Year 9 Charity Sea Sheppard was also a key talking point being another sponsor of the club. Students from other year groups were taught about how the charity take action to “defend, conserve and protect marine wildlife like no other organisation can”, by cutting illegal nets, cleaning vital ecosystems and even shutting down illegal operations in contentious waters. They are essentially legal pirates!
The presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are very thankful to PlayerLayer for the opportunity to speak with them about what they are doing to help preserve our environment. It was greatly inspiring to the Eco Team who are motivated to start their own work here at Ratcliffe!
