On Saturday 9th June our U11 boys Tennis team travelled to Stamford Junior School to play in the annual Stamford Junior School U11 Boys Doubles Tournament.
We had three pairs competing throughout the afternoon against 6 other schools, Laxton Junior, Grantham Prep, Brooke Priory, Copthill, Witham Hall and Stamford Junior.
Each pair played 6 matches and after all 18 matches we had a record of played 18 won 16 lost 2.
The eventual overall winner of the Tournament however was not decided on how many matches you had won but on how many games you had won throughout the afternoon. At the close of play we had amassed 67 games in total. Unfortunately, Witham Hall had amassed 72 games and as a result they nudged us into second place.
This was a bitter disappointment for the boys who had played some outstanding tennis throughout the afternoon and especially as we had beaten Witham Hall in both of our pair 2 and pair 3 matches.
Although we did not get what we truly deserved I cannot praise highly enough both the playing performance and the sportsmanlike attitude the boys demonstrated throughout the Tournament. They represented Ratcliffe with great pride and passion and it was a privilege to have witnessed their outstanding tennis, teamwork and tenacity. Well done to all of the boys who played;
Pair 1: Finlay Martin and Oliver Clark – 24 Games won
Pair 2: George Leite and Andres Kassner – 19 Games won
Pair 3: Sam Leake and Harry Hings – 24 Games won and unbeaten on the day
