In a heart-warming initiative led by parent, Mrs Aimee Mason, the Parents’ Association at Ratcliffe College rallied together to support Long Field Spencer Academy in Melton Mowbray by organising a donation drive for prom wear. Upon learning about the Academy’s need for assistance, through a teacher at Long Field, Mrs Sam Lee, the PA wasted no time in mobilising their efforts and reaching out to parents for donations of items.
Mrs Longford, a Governor at Long Field, explained, “I told Mr Haggett, the Head Teacher, and he was so pleased. There are some quite vulnerable families, but his ethos is that he wants to give every child the opportunities he had when he was growing up. And he really does find a way. Today for example, I was loading the food bank baskets that go to families in need. He really will be ever so grateful for any donations for the prom.”
The Academy specifically sought suits for their students and the response from Ratcliffe parents exceeded expectations. A remarkable number of suits, along with elegant dresses, shirts and ties were generously donated.
Mrs Lee, who is also a parent at Ratcliffe and delivered the items, said “I took the prom suit donations to Long Field, as I teach there. The Head and the staff were very grateful. The intention is that kids borrow what they need then bring it back. They now have a good stock of suits, dresses, shoes, and accessories, that they can lend out, which can be used again and again. Thank you very much, on behalf of the staff and students.”
Reflecting on the success of the campaign, Aimee expressed her gratitude, saying, “I was overwhelmed by the swift response from so many parents, and to know that so many of these nearly new suits are going to be used again is just wonderful.”
“I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who donated.”
