As our students look ahead to Sixth Form at Ratcliffe College, Year 11’s had their ‘Becoming a Sixth Former Day’, beginning with tech-based code-breaking challenges to unveil the brief for the afternoon’s Apprentice-style project.
The students were then given the chance to attend one of five interactive Global Learning Workshops on topics relating to their potential A Level subjects, ranging from Game Theory to Grime Music!
In the afternoon, the Year 11’s relished the challenge of an exciting team project, grappling with Apprentice-style briefs to design a bespoke trip to London, Oxford or Paris. Fulfilling the specs of each brief, our students created plans for all elements of their trip, from transport and accommodation to formal dinners and networking events, producing a cost summary, itinerary and slideshow to pitch their ideas. They were required to evaluate the ethics and financial considerations of accepting various sponsorship deals and even which guest speaker to book, from Greta Thunberg to David Attenborough or from Ursula von der Leyen to Jean-Claude Juncker. Ideas from the winning teams (pictured) will form the basis of a Year Group trip in September 2020 as part of their induction into Year 12.
It was wonderful to see our students responding to the challenges with such enthusiasm and dedication, all the while developing skills and qualities that will prepare them for the exciting years ahead in Sixth Form and adult life!
