Shreya shares her Passion for Fashion

At the end of summer term, Ratcliffe senior school students hosted a Charity Fashion Show for an audience of fellow students, parents, and staff. The event showcased fashion trends from the 1970s through to the present day and was led by Year 12 student Shreya Mistry.

Originally launched in 2020, Ratcliffe’s Careers Development Fund is a programme supported by a different Old Ratcliffian each year, donating £1000 to be used for career development purposes.

Year 12 students put their big ideas forward to Mrs Kate Grace, Head of Careers and a panel of other ‘Dragons’, to bid for a share of the endowment, justifying how the funds could be used to support their project and career.

The funds from this year’s sponsor, Old Ratcliffian Dominic Russell, owner of Russell Property allowed Shreya to recruit a wider team of students from a variety of year groups, each having an interest in either Fashion Design, Marketing, Event Management or Production. The group used the funds to source suitable clothing and to coordinate the event successfully.

It was fantastic to see a group of students work collaboratively on such a project. The process has advanced their communication, teamwork and organisational skills, with Year 12s especially, hoping to document their cooperation within their upcoming University applications.

Shreya commented, “This was an incredible experience, I learnt a vast amount myself and developed my skill set, in particular how to manage others and what it’s like to lead a team”.

We are delighted to announce that the Charity Fashion Show and associated raffle raised £450 with the proceeds from the event to be donated to the Ratcliffe College Ukrainian Crisis Appeal, a fantastic way to end the academic year!
