It was perfect racing weather at Ratcliffe College for the 2020 County XC Championships on Saturday, the 1st of February with 228 racers representing 29 schools across Rutland and Leicestershire.
Ratcliffe’s Year 7 Girls Team and Year 7 Boys Team both took second team place titles. Well done to Shai King, Charlotte Shields, Emma Beale, Chelsea Locker, Jack Tumball, Jake Woodrift, Spike Chapman and Tomas Mason. Shai King, with another dominant race, became the 2020 Year 7 Girls County Champion in what can only be described as racing at its finest.
Finlay Martin finished 9th in the Boys Junior Race to be picked as the first reserve for the Junior Boys Team representing Rutland and Leicestershire at English Schools on the 14th of March and he’s only in Year 8! Sam Leake, Tom Urwin, Sophie Shields, Eleanor Taylor, Josh Davison and Rishi Desai all had very strong races and their effort on a very tough and muddy course was superb. Unfortunately, Mia Atkinson could not race because of an ongoing injury, however she has been picked for English Schools because of her outstanding past performances.
Ratcliffe’s Senior Schools XC Team represented their school with enthusiasm, brilliant sportsmanship and fierce determination. The hard work and effort that they have shown at practices since September was evident on the day and we’re very proud of each and everyone of them.
