On Sunday 7th April, fifteen excited students left Ratcliffe College very early in the morning to fly to Valencia for the annual Spanish trip with Miss Casas and Mrs Leite. It was an action packed week of language learning, enhancing existing language skills, visiting places of interest and having the opportunity to experience the wonderful Spanish way of life.
The School was located in the heart of the city and was truly impressive in its design, containing modern classrooms within the original Roman walls of the city. The students stayed with families, providing them with the opportunity for language immersion and plenty of conversation around the evening dinner table. The students enjoyed navigating their way around the city to get to lessons each morning and the sense of freedom and responsibility that this entailed. We were blessed with a wonderful tour guide, Monica, who stayed with us throughout the week and we were able to learn so much about Valencia and its history. The city is wonderful, comprising of spectacular old and modern architecture, constantly buzzing with tourists and people who were all enjoying the Spanish sun. Home to the paella, we were able to sample Valencia’s finest cuisine in local restaurants. The churros and chocolate proved very popular after an afternoon playing volleyball on a very windy beach, and everyone loved sampling the tapas and eating ice-cream in the busy Plaza. A highlight of the holiday was the Salsa class; it was certainly danced like you have never seen it before! The Aquarium was amazing, and we were treated to a spectacular dolphin show. Miss Casas and Mrs Leite would like to thank the students for a super week together and they were delighted to see the progress that the students made, captured by their enthusiasm and passion throughout the trip.
