The 1st team put in a controlled display to comfortably win 4 – 0 against a spirited Nottingham High team. Although starting slowly they managed to go into half-time 2 – 0 up with both goals being scored by Alex Purcell. In the second half Ratcliffe continued to dominate. Tom Binnie converted a penalty stroke and James Turner completed the scoring. Player of the Match was Tom Page who had a great game at half back.

2nd XI

The 2nd team have had a busy week. They played their Tier 4 County Tournament on Wednesday. Unfortunately, with a game to go the tournament was stopped due to a frozen pitch. On Saturday against Nottingham High the performance level was much higher ending up with an excellent 5 – 0 win. There were some terrific performances from the boys, especially Krishan Jivanji, who scored a hat-trick. Other goal scorers were James Berns and Alex Bown. The boys need to try and keep the intensity of this performance up for the rest of the term.

3rd XI

Ratcliffe 3rd XI lost a closely fought game 1 – 0. Ratcliffe dominated much of the possession and had the lion’s share of chances at goal, but couldn’t capitalise. Player of the Match was Tom Hammond.

U15A

The Under 15 team played a very good game against Nottingham High. The High School dominated the first-half, with their star man running the game, but they could not get the breakthrough. Ratcliffe dominated the second half and their work rate was outstanding. They created a number of half chances through some good team play before Man of the Match Dan McGunnigle scored what looked like the winning goal. Sadly, Nottingham hit back almost immediately and the match ended in a draw.

U15/14B

The Ratcliffe U14/15B played against Nottingham High and came away with a fine 6 – 2 win. The boys got off to a great start scoring a goal in the first 5 minutes of the game through Henry Coombs. The boys kept up the relentless pressure by playing the ball out wide which led to a further two goals by Temi Abiodun and Henry Coombs getting his second of the match. The Half – time score was 3 – 0 to Ratcliffe College. The second half didn’t start as well as the first with Nottingham High getting two early goals, the boys managed to control their frustration though by going back to basics which led to Louis Westwood getting a great goal off a short corner. A further two goals from Temi Abiodun and Joe Davis sealed the match. Man of the Match for his great skill and work down the left wing went to Henry Coombs and a mention must also go to Jacob Storey for his great passes down the right hand side.

U14A

The Ratcliffe U14A team lost 3 – 2 this weekend to Nottingham High School. The game was a very physical encounter, which was largely dominated by Ratcliffe. A slow start by the boys allowed the opposition a 3 – 1 lead going into half-time, with Samuel Gray scoring the goal for Ratcliffe. In the second half, Ratcliffe took control of the game, creating chances and causing real problems to the opposition. However, a lack of composure around the opposition circle allowed Nottingham High to hold firm until the final 5 minutes, when Harry Gamble finished off a great team move. Unfortunately, Ratcliffe were unable to grab the equalizer and lost the game, though they deserved better. Player of the Match goes to Cameron Mulvihill for his dominance in the centre of midfield.

U13A

The U13As had a tough fixture against a very well-drilled Nottingham High School team and unfortunately lost the game 8 – 0. Despite some great saves early on by Henry King, Nottingham were able to convert a few of their chances and Ratcliffe’s head’s dropped. Although, Ratcliffe did come out after half-time with energy and had a much better half than the first, showing Nottingham that they could match them in many areas of the pitch. However, the boys were unfortunate not to capitalise on their chances. Man of the Match goes to Sam Pick for some great work in defence.

U13/12B

It was a challenging day at the office for the U13/12B team who came up against a strong Nottingham side losing 4 – 0. Nottingham pressed aggressively from the start and reaped the benefits, as Ratcliffe gave away 2 easy goals. After that it was an uphill battle for Ratcliffe who failed to respond, in spite of Man of the Match Quin Capsticks best efforts.

U12A

The U12s played some very good hockey to beat Nottingham High School 4 – 0. If it had not been for the excellence of the opposition goal keeper, who made a number of outstanding saves, then the score line could have been considerably more. Goal scorers for Ratcliffe were Jacques Wilkins, Sam Leake, Kim O’Sullivan and Lucas Barker. Men of the Match were Sam Leake for his excellent skills and Olly Clark for controlling the game superbly in the midfield.
